After she does her time, she discovers that the government have frozen all of her assets and she needs to start again from scratch, resulting in her saying on the couch of her former assistant Claire (Bell) and her young daughter Rachel. However, when she ruins a business deal of a former-flame, Renault (Dinklage) he rats her out for committing insider-trading and she is sent to prison. Michelle Darnell (McCarthy) is the 47th richest woman in America and has built up a massive business empire worth billions of dollars. Will we find ourselves with another subversive comedy or is this just another ho-hum passion project from this filmmaking couple? With two opposing career paths it will be interesting to see which one ‘ The Boss‘ will go down. And Path 2 lowest common denominator plus-sized prat-falls like ‘ Identity Theft‘ and ‘ Tammy‘. The latter film ‘ Tammy‘ was directed by McCarthy’s husband Ben Falcone and it’s from him that we also have ‘The Boss’ which again stars his wife McCarthy in the leading-role. Path 1 fun, high-concept comedies that don’t just rely on plus-sized prat-falls such as ‘ Spy‘, ‘ The Heat‘ and the upcoming ‘ Ghostbusters‘. Since then, McCarthy’s career on film has gone down two distinct paths. Despite that film having an ensemble-cast, it was McCarthy’s Academy Award nominated performance that most people were talking about upon seeing the film.
